PARK CITY, Utah --- USA Luge, the national governing body for the sport of luge in the United States, and the Wasatch Luge Club, of Park City, Utah, will be holding a four-day luge camp for disabled athletes, Dec. 13-16, in Park City, Utah.

“The camp is designed to broaden the accessibility of luge to the disabled community,” mentioned Jon Owen, USA Luge’s western regional sports manager. “Our hope is that eventually we can grow the sport nationally.”

Under the guidance of Owen and Cheslav Shumilov, the western regional development coach, participants will begin sliding from curve-12 of the 2002 Olympic course, on sleds fitted to meet the Disability of each athlete, but Owen believes that by the end of the camp, sliders will be able to move up to the tourist start in curve-10.

Athletes will be housed at the National Ability Center, in Park City, and the camp will be limited to eight sliders. Advance registration is required by calling (435) 647-3800. The deadline for registration is Sunday, Sept. 10.
